The Meaning of the Season ------------------------------------ It's always amazing just how magical this time of year is. The space from Thanksgiving to (arbitrary date I know, but for sports fans like myself it's a big day!) Jan. 7th just seems to hold a special meaning for many people. It doesn't seem to matter if you're a Christian, a pagan, a Jew, or a secularist, there's always something that makes this time of year one of magic and wonder. Why is that? This is hard to pin down exactly. One can argue the fact that it's because it's the "holiday season" and holidays are always special. This is true, but it's only a partial explanation.

Rather in the form of graphic novels and trade paperback collections, single issues in the traditional magazine/pamphlet form, or in the form of newspaper strips and editorial cartoons, comics have been a pervasive art form in America for over a century. But have you really sat down and thought about them? Are they just kids stuff for you? As comics legend Will Eisner put it, do you view them as a "despised art form"?
